Putting the Site on Hold
Published Friday, March 02, 2007 in Site News
I'm gonna put the site on hold for a bit while I work on optimizing my PHP.
Loading time has really increased lately, and I'm gonna see what I can do about it.
It may take some time, but i figured there's no point in writing anything if people can't read it because it takes 40 secs to load the friggin page.
When i come back the site will (hopefully) run much faster, have a lot of ajax functionality (comments, poll, rating etc) and i'll write some css/xhtml-articles in swedish for once!
Be back in a few weeks!
Update: During my back-end update I've created a debug-mode for the site that times all modules etc.
Through this function i found out that my BlogRoll took around 5-6 seconds to load and all the other modules avaraged something like 0.2 seconds.
I quickly realized it was my getSiteFavicon() function that was slow (it tries to open and parse files on other servers), and removing that function increased speed by 3-4 times.
I'm still re-coding plenty of the back-end, making it "ajax-ready" and generally making things better and nicer.
Expect a big back-end update in a few weeks.
Ciao
